Martial artists whip up 36 wins at regional tourney

The 18 students who represented Hoover’s Martial Arts in Brandon at the Sioux Falls Class A 2017 Regional Tournament Oct. 6-7 brought home 36 wins. Rank testings and tournaments have kept students at Brandon’s Hoover’s Martial Arts busy this fall, beginning with the Sioux Falls Class A 2017 Regional Tournament Oct. 6-7. 
The competition featured martial artists from across the country of skill levels, from 4-year-olds through adults and white belts through 5th Degree Black Belts.
The 18 students who represented Brandon brought home a total of 36 wins. 
Here’s a round-up of those results:
Tiny Tiger winner: Aida Keffeler
Color Belt winner: Caleb Stueven
Black Belt winners: Madisyn Rust, James Peterson
Forms – 1st place: Caden Sworawske, Taryn Smorawske, Megan Travis, Zander Larson, Ryan Thompson; 2nd place: Adam Dykes; 3rd place: Hudson Keffeler, Auston Massman.
Traditional Sparring – 1st place: Caden Smorawske, Taryn Smorawske, Jackson Drotzman, Zander Larson; 2nd place: Megan Travis, Adam Dykes; 3rd place: Ryan Thompson, Zach Zweifel.
Traditional Weapons – 1st place: Caden Smorawske, Taryn Smorawske, Megan Travis, Adam Dykes, Zander Larson, Koyer Leopold and Dylan Drexler; 2nd place: Zach Zweifel and Auston Massman; 3rd place: Hudson Keffeler, Kaelynn Swenson and Carson Hunt
Combat Sparring – 1st place: Auston Massman; 3rd place: Zach Zweifel, Carson Hunt, Jackson Drotzman. 
 
Black Belt Testings
New 1st Degree Black Belts Freya Stromsness, Auston Massman and Luke Smart passed a series of tests that included traditional taekwondo forms and sparring, various board break techniques, traditional weapons and fitness.
Noah Kimball completed an additional year of training, testing and fitness to earn his 2nd Degree rank.
Third Degree rank requires an additional two years of training, testing and fitness. Chris Verhey completed an additional two years of training and additional testing and fitness requirements to earn his 3rd Degree rank.
