SDSU recognizes student work at URSCAD

South Dakota State University held its annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Day April 20 in the University Student Union’s Volstorff Ballroom.

In addition to selecting top student performances, the university announced the recipients of the Schultz-Werth Awards and the Joseph F. Nelson Undergraduate Research Mentorships. URSCAD is organized by SDSU’s Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College.

Among the student honorees from Brandon are: Landon Smith (Joseph F. Nelson Undergraduate Research Mentorship), Jacob Edwards (Schultz-Werth Award), Isabelle DeWitt (Research Poster winner) and Maryn Duncanson (Research Poster winner).

 

Dakota State announces spring academic honorees

A total of 559 full-time and 205 part-time students qualified for the President’s Academic Honors list for the 2023 spring semester at Dakota State University in Madison.

The following full-time students achieved a grade point average of 3.5 to 4.0 to qualify for the honors list: Brandon – Payton DeJong, Skyler Early Stonearrow, Tess Eflin, Cameron Gerovac, Brooklyn Grage, William Hulzebos, Grant Lambert, Brooke Lunstra, Jacob Rasmussen, Cole Sylliaasen, Serena Van Den Oever, Brett VanOoort; Garretson – Michael Clark, Lucas Draper, Oliviyah Thornton, Mason Tillma.

 

Six Brandon students are Minnesota State University, Mankato graduates

Minnesota State University, Mankato awarded 2,494 degrees to 2,247 students, which included six students from Brandon, at the end of the spring 2023 semester. Commencement ceremonies were held Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. 

Among the group of Brandon graduates are Kaitlyn Bannwarth (BS., Communication Studies, Cum Laude and CERT, ASL Certificate, Cum Laude). Angel Betanzo (BSSW, Social Work Summa Cum Laude), Eric Hanson (MS, Mechanical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude), Madeline Jacobson (BS, Elementary Education, Summa Cum Laude), Nathan Mutschelknaus (BS, Aviation, Magna Cum Laude) and Erin Sudbeck (MSW, Social Work).

Undergraduate students receiving recognition included 471 students graduating summa cum laude (3.8 grade point average and higher), 298 students graduating magna cum laude (grade point averages of 3.6 to 3.79) and 317 students graduating cum laude (grade point averages of 3.4 to 3.59). 

 

U of N-Lincoln awards record 3,753 degrees in May ceremonies

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln conferred a record 3,753 degrees during commencement exercises May 19 and 20. The list of local graduates and their degrees are as follows: Brandon – Emily Nicole Barton, College of Business, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with highest distinction; Amanda Westcott, College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science; Valley Springs – Carly Kathleen Scherb, College of Business, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with distinction.

 

Record number of students celebrated at MTC graduation

A record 513 students were honored at Mitchell Technical College’s 55th graduation commencement ceremonies May 5 at the Corn Palace.

Among the area graduates are: Brandon – Michael Small, AAS, Architectural Design & Building Construction; and Garretson – Tessa Pederson, AAS, Animal Science, High Honor Student (3.75-4.0 GPA).
