BVHS well represented at state HOSA
Brandon Valley was well-represented at the state HOSA (Future Health Occupations) competition last week, coming away with three scholarship winners and several national qualifiers. Students who qualified (first, second or third place) for nationals will compete in late June in Nashville, Tenn.
Among the local scholarship recipients are Anna Tews, $1,000 from Avera health; Makayla Veld, $1,000 from Sanford Health; and Emerson Conrad, the $250 SD HOSA Service Scholarship.
Three individuals and a team of five captured first-place honors. They are: Mazzi Moore, biomedical lab science and medical reading; Allison Lauritzen, home health aide; Anna Tews, behavioral health; BV’s healthcare team, Kylie Foss, Makayla Veld, Macey Boerhave, Gemma Symington and Taylor Stemen.
Second-place award winners are Annika Noem, clinical nursing; and Ava Johnson, nutrition.
Earning third-place at the state HOSA competition are Shelbi Engler, medical assisting; Brady Giles and Joey Anders, EMT; Makayla Veld, epidemiology; the healthcare team of Joey Anders, Brady Giles, Cait Jacobson, Rahul Singh and Ana Evans; and the team of Brady Giles, Joey Anders, Haley Christensen, Emerson Conrad and Cait Jacobson in the anatomage cadaver table tournament.
