Six BVHS students

qualify for national

speech tourney

Six Brandon Valley High School students qualified for the national speech tournament, which will be held in Louisville, Ky., in June.

The qualifiers and their categories are: Ellen Joseph, humor; alternate, Katherine Watkins; Ian Candy and Amina Koch, POI (program of oral interpretation); alternate, Kaylee Willard.

In addition, Tara Rolph and Watkins will compete in BV’s two extra spots in supplemental events.

 

Presler advances to

district Optimist Club

essay contest

Brandon Valley junior Ryan Presler took first place in the BV Optimist Club’s essay contest. Claiming second and third place are Mara Nelson (second) and Simone Kane and Grace Heiberger (third).

All three students earned scholarship dollars, and Presler now advances to the district competition.

 

Seven to represent BVHS at Girls State

Krista Burkman, Allison Ebbing, Julia Hemelstrand, Simone Kane, Emily McCain, Hannah Preheim and Sarah Romman have all been selected to represent Brandon Valley High School at the American Legion Auxiliary-sponsored Girls State.

Girls State is held annually in June on the campus of the University of South Dakota.
