SDSU announces fall 2018 graduates
The following students in the Brandon Valley Journal coverage area graduated following the fall 2018 session at South Dakota State University. The students listed completed all requirements for a degree and/or certificate program and those requirements have been verified by the appropriate college.
The names of honor graduates marked with WH designate graduation with honor; CL, Cum Laude; MCL, Magna Cum Laude; and SCL, Summa Cum Laude.
Overall, students from 28 states and 18 nations graduated following the fall 2018 semester.
Area students include: Brandon – Kristine DeJaeghere-Tillett, Master of Science, Graduate School; Shannon Hegland (CL), Bachelor of Arts, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Bachelor of Science, College of Natural Sciences; Rebecca Long, B.S., College of Nursing; Macy Murren, B.S. College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences; Garretson – Shane Mueller, (MCL), B.A. College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Sioux Falls - Umaima Koch, (SCL), B.A. College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (x2); Valley Springs - Katelynn Erickson, (MCL), B.S. College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
 
BVHS seniors invited to 2018 Academic Excellence Recognition Luncheon
Three Brandon Valley High School seniors are among the nearly 200 graduating seniors from South Dakota’s public, private and Tribal/Bureau of Indian Education schools to be honored at the 2019 Academic Excellence Recognition Luncheon on April 29 at the Ramkota Rivercentre in Pierre. These students are among the top 1 percent of graduating seniors in South Dakota this year.
Representing BVHS are Morgan Else, Max Outland and Nathan Popp.
This year marks the 29th annual luncheon hosted by Associated School Boards of South Dakota in association with Governor Kristi Noem, the School Administrators of South Dakota and the Department of Education.
Gov. Noem will address the students, and each honoree in attendance will be presented a certificate and pin, a personal greeting by the governor and will have their photo taken with her.
The event is sponsored by the South Dakota Board of Regents, the South Dakota Community Foundation and the South Dakota Education Association. The Madison Central Jazz Band will provide musical entertainment.
