Lynx shine on volleyball court during weekend play

Over two days of volleyball action, the Lady Lynx racked up three victories and two losses. All three of the victories were by sizable margins.
On Friday, BV faced Spearfish on a neutral court in Mitchell, where the Lynx cashed in a 3-0 win: 25-10, 25-12 and 25-20. No other stats were available from this match.
BV’s first loss of the season came against Sioux Falls Lincoln. The Pats took the first set 18-25 and BV rebounded in the second, 25-20, setting the stage for the match-deciding set, which went the way of Lincoln, 19-25.
In the match, Bella Steffel and Avery Timmons were effective in BV’s net attack. Steffel fired five kills and Timmons had four. As a team, the Lynx registered five solo blocks.
Ella Simonson was kept busy, providing 16 digs throughout the match. Assists were made by Kaija Mork, who had 10, and Avery Myers, who had eight. Mork also had one ace.
A trio of Lady Lynx were swinging hard in the squad’s 2-0 win over Douglas, both 25-14 victories.
Brooklyn Grage’s eight kills led the squad. Steffel and Morgan Hunt each provided four kills to the winning cause, and Grage had the team’s only block.
Digs were shared by Abby Finch and Simonson, who had eight and seven, respectively. Myers had 10 assists and five aces, while Mork provided nine assists and Simonson had four aces in the match.
The net play of Timmons, Bella Stensrud and Steffel were sure factors in BV’s competitive 2-1 loss to the Huron Tigers. The trio combined for 18 kills, with Timmons’ eight leading the way. Both Stensrud and Steffel contributed five kills. Timmons was also a factor on defense, charting three solo blocks.
The Lynx took the first set 25-17, lost by the same margin in the follow-up and came up short in the 25-20 third and match-deciding set.
Simonson once again led the team in digs with 18; Myers and Finch had 10 and nine, respectively.
Myers was credited with 14 assists and Mork had 10. Finch provided two ace serves.
In the tournament finale, the Lynx made quick work of Mitchell, ousting them by 25-17 and 25-9 scores.
Both Stensrud and Steffel had seven kills. Timmons, Grage and Hunt all had a single block.
Simonson had a hand on 11 digs and Taylor Stemen was credited with seven. Myers and Mork shared in assists with 13 and 10, respectively. Grage also planted four ace serves in the victory.
The Lady Lynx take their 4-2 record to Brookings Thursday and will host Mitchell Sept. 10. Both matches get underway at 7 p.m.
