Kazi Ellingson concentrates on serving the ball during BV’s 3-0 sweep of the Brookings Bobcats last week.
If you blinked, you may have missed Brandon Valley’s 3-0 victory Thursday over the visiting Brookings (1-2) Bobcats. Aggressive play by the Lynx on both sides of the ball resulted in BV’s first ESD Conference win of the season, solidified by their 25-16, 25-14, 25-13 set victories.

“It was just a great overall win,” is how Lady Lynx head coach Marette Grage summed up her team’s dominating victory. “They played very well together as a team and did a good job of mixing it up and running our offense.”

BV’s dominance begins in the game stats, where Brooklyn Grage’s 6-foot-1 frame had a large presence. The senior outside hitter polluted Brookings with 10 kills, 14 digs and seven ace serves, the latter being an area Coach Grage was especially proud to see her team excel in.

“We served very aggressive tonight and took care of the ball and had a lot of aces tonight as a team,” the coach said. “It was just a fun match to see them take control of the game and be focused to finish.”

Aiding Brooklyn Grage’s performance was Taylor Stemen, who hammered seven kills at Brookingss defenders.

Abby Fink also stepped up to the challenge of her back-row position, coming up with 14 kills.

Lizzie Kopp and Jenna Stengel provided 12 and 10 assists, respectively. As a team, the Lynx registered seven solo blocks.

Brookings was clearly out-matched by the Lynx, as Haley Sampson and Kat Charging each had four kills to their credit, and Gracie Adamson accounted for three of the team’s six total blocks.

The Bobcats’ back row was guided by Riley Weisbck and Sydney Schneider who had 12 and eight digs, respectively Brit Birgen put up 11 set assists and Charging recorded the team’s lone ace.

It was a clean sweep for the Lady Lynx Thursday night, at all levels of play – JV, sophomore and freshmen A and B teams – all sent the Bobcats packing with 2-0 losses.

BV (2-2) begins a three-match home schedule Thursday when Yankton (1-6) pays a visit to the Lynx court, followed by Harrisburg (2-1) on Sept. 15 and O’Gorman (2-0) on Sept. 17. All three matches get underway at 7 p.m.
