Castle garners ‘Coach 
of Year’ honors
Miller/Highmore-Harrold coach Will Castle was named the 2017 Region 3 Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.
Castle, a 2008 Brandon Valley High School graduate, led the Rustlers to the Class 9AA semifinals in the 2017 season. They finished the year with an 8-3 record. 
Other 2017 Region Coaches of the Year are Mike Flakus of Aberdeen Central (Region 1); Dan Hughes of Sioux Valley (Region 2); Scott Hagens of Rapid City Stevens (Region 4); Steven Hansen of Dell Rapids (Region 5); Jeff Van Leur of Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan (Region 6); Brian Allmendinger of Gregory (Region 7); and Lex Heathershaw of Wall (Region 8).
Klatt signs with Xavier University
Courtney Klatt, a senior at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School, signed her national letter of intent to compete in cross country and track and field at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Klatt was the 2016 Class AA state cross country champion and 2017 state runner-up. She also won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the 2017 Class AA state track meet. In addition, Klatt is a two-time honorable mention All-American in cross country and All-American honorable mention selection in track, as well as Academic All-State and Academic Letter recipient.
She is the daughter of Kevin and Sandy Klatt, Brandon.
 
BVHA plans Puck-n-Pond Hockey Tourney
Brandon’s new ice hockey rink will be “christened” Dec. 9-10 at the first-ever Brandon Valley Hockey Association Puck-n-Pond Tournament.
The tournament, which is full, will feature Mini-Mite (6U) and Mite (8U) teams.
 
De-Light-Ful 5K run in Luverne
Registration is now open for the 15th annual De-Light-Ful Run set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 in Luverne, Minn.
The race will start and end at the Luverne Armory, 309 S. Freeman Ave. Online registration at allsportscentral.com is available. Race day registration begins at the Armory at 5 p.m. To learn more, contact Dave Duffy at (507) 920-3345.
