Lady Lynx tied for sixth at state golf tourney
After day one of the AA state golf tournament, the Lady Lynx golf team is tied for sixth place with Mitchell. In the lead at Watertown’s Cattail Crossing is the O’Gorman Knights, followed by Aberdeen Central, Yankton, Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Pierre. 
Leading the Lady Lynx are Julia Andresen, who was tied for eighth, carding an 80, and Tanna Lehfeldt was in 17th place with an 83.

Glow Ride at Big Sioux Rec on June 8
Head to Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon for a fun, family glow ride starting at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Riders should bring glow sticks and flashing lights. The ride will start from the comfort station and continue through the campground.
At 9 p.m., prior to the ride, participants can meet at the comfort station to decorate their bikes with glow sticks, glow tape and streamers.
A park license is required for entrance.
 
First Annual Brandon Edge Fun Run
Brandon Edge will host their first annual 0.1K Fun Run! Yep, just 329 feet from start to finish at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Participants must be at least 21 years of age.
Brandon Edge has partnered with A Homestead Brewery, 26685 486th Ave., rural Valley Springs, for the short run that will go a long way towards supporting programs for local youth. Registration fee is $25 prior to May 31 and $30 thereafter, and includes a free t-shirt and pint of beer from A Homestead Brewery.
 
Register for Jimmie Fjerestad Golf Tourney
Registrations are being accepted for the sixth annual Jimmie Fjerestad Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, June 28 at the Brandon Golf Course. Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 8 a.m. Cost is $60 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart and lunch.

The tournament is sponsored by the Fjerestad family and the Brandon Community Foundation, with excess proceeds benefitting the BCF.
 
BVBA to host six teams for state championships 
If you love baseball, Brandon and Valley Springs are the place to be this summer. The Brandon Valley Baseball Association sponsors six teams that will compete for state championships this summer. Here is a rundown of the teams: 
Brandon Valley Sr. Legion (Coaches - Jeremy VanHeel and Evan Steemken) - BV should be one of the favorites in a very competitive senior Legion field. The team features many players from the high school squad that was ranked No. 1 in the state through most of the spring high school season.
Brandon Valley Jr. Legion (Coaches - Kelly Krzmarzick and Ken Longman) - The BV Jr. Legion features players from Brandon Valley’s junior varsity and freshman/sophomore teams this spring.  
Brandon Valley 16U (Ryan Meyer and Peyton Livingston) - This team is currently 2-4 on the season after facing some excellent competition in the Pizza Ranch Tournament and played very well. 
Brandon Valley 13U-14U (Coaches – 14U Joel Sage and Zach Felderman; 13U - Mitch Hoover and Isaiah Chevalier; 13/14U - Andrew Erkonen and Jacob Johnson) At this age bracket, the BVBA sponsors three teams. The 13U Black, 14U Black and 13/14 Red. These teams will compete in many local and regional tournaments this season.  
In all, these teams will compete in over 300 games and have an opportunity to win a state championship at each level.

SDHSCA Hall of Fame inductees named
Bruce Kleinsasser, president of the South Dakota High School Coaches Association, has announced the names of the newest members of the SDHSCA Hall of Fame: Mary Ellen Luikens, Scotland, Assistant Coaching award; Tom McGough, Miller Cross Country and Track & Field; Dan Thelen (deceased), for football and track & field; and Jim Trett, Sioux Falls, basketball.
They will be inducted at an awards luncheon at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 7 at the Highland Conference Center in Mitchell.
