JV boys’ soccer blanks Yankton
BV’s boy’s JV soccer team kept their 5-0 season unblemished by handing their hosts, the Yankton Bucks, a 4-0 defeat Aug. 29. The Lynx took control of the ball and the game tempo early on, which led to a bevy of scoring opportunities.
BV’s Ethan Akin and Mason Matthies produced two goals apiece. Akin’s first goal came early in the second half on well-placed through ball by midfielder, Sam Olthoff. As he broke away, Akin tried for a long shot from about 30 yards out, noticing the keeper’s field placement, he perfectly placed the ball on goal.
BV’s second goal came shortly after on cross from Landon Kocer on the right side of the field. There to finish it off with a one-touch volley in front of the goal was sophomore midfielder, Mason Matthies.
Third goal came late in the first half when Akin broke away from the Yankton defense to find the lower left-hand corner of the net.
BV’s fourth and final goal was registered midway in the second half by Matthies. He went one-on-one against his Yankton defender, and once he was able to find an angle on the goal, he placed the ball across the goalie to the left back side of the net.
