The O’Gorman Knights shut the door on Brandon Valley’s 2017 boys’ soccer season Sept. 26 by scoring the game’s only goal off a corner kick 15 minutes into the contest.
Lynx head coach Chris Limmer said the two teams matched wits in the first half, both firing three shots at the opposition’s goal. After the initial score, Limmer said his team picked up the pace offensively and stepped up their defensive pressure.
BV took more control in the second half, creating various scoring opportunities. BV fired six shots at the O’G goal, three of which were on goal; the Knights took five shots, with two on goal.
BV’s best chances came in the final 10 minutes when Ethan Akin flicked the ball through to Wyatt Haas, but an O’G defender disrupted the attempt. A few minutes later, BV’s Jacob Johnson looked to take advantage of an O’G defender’s miscue. Johnson dribbled toward the goal and, once again, the Knights defense kept the Lynx out of goal.
Limmer said this was the team’s best outing of the season.
“I told them that I was very happy with the way we played tonight, which was very good soccer. O’Gorman is a very good team, but I thought we deserved to win the game because of the way we played,” Limmer said. “I think our seniors did a great job of showing important leadership and helped set the stage for continued success next year. We have a relatively young team, and I’m excited to see how we can build on this and be even better next year.”
The Lynx end their season at 5-6-2.
