Lady Lynx right-fielder Adrian Schoby makes a diving catch for an out. BV will play for the state title Friday and Saturday at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls.

Brandon Valley softball coach Corey Christensen wants another swing at the Harrisburg Tigers. And the Lady Lynx may get that opportunity, but it won’t happen until the Oct. 2-3 state tournament.

Last week, the Tigers handed BV back-to-back losses, the first a 10-0 setback and the 5-2 follow-up.

“They are a good team,” Christensen said, “and will be good and tough anytime you play them. They have a lot of good hitters and we didn’t make adjustments to that.”

BV 0, Harrisburg 10
The Lady Lynx watched the game slip away early on, and couldn’t recover from the 10-0 deficit the Tigers built in their first two at bats. Harrisburg notched two runs in the first and fourth innings and produced a big six-run, second inning.

Meanwhile, the Lynx struggled to get anything going offensively, and had a tough time defensively containing Harrisburg’s firepower at the plate.

Alika Csordacsis was charged with the loss. She allowed 10 hits and 10 runs over 3 2/3 innings, and struck out one Harrisburg batter.

BV            000 0XX X – 0 3 3
Harris.  260 2XX X – 10 10 0

Pitching: BV – Alika Csordacsics (LP) 3.2 IP, 10 hits, 10 runs, 5 errors, 1 SO, 2 walks.

BV 2, Harrisburg 5
The Lady Lynx kept the Tigers within striking distance in the nightcap, despite falling short in the 5-2 outcome.

BV put up two runs in the first, which was fueled by a Kailee Craig hit to plate the initial run.

The Tigers put the game away by registering three runs in the top of the third.

Tevin Bryant claimed the win in the circle. She went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out seven BV batters and walking none.

Jorden Gabert took the loss. She surrendered five runs on 12 hits over six innings, striking out two.

Craig, Kaija Mork, Hilary Behrens, Ella Ray, Coral Gonseth and Gaby Schroder all had one hit in the game. The Tigers chiseled out 12 hits through six innings.

Harris.      103 010 X – 5 12 1
BV              200 000 X – 2 6 0

BV – Coral Gonseth 1-2, dbl.; Kaija Mork 1-3, dbl., run, RBI; Kailee Craig 1-3 run. Pitching: BV – Jorden Gabbert (LP) 6 IP, 12 bits, 5 runs, 5 errors, 2 SO, 2 walks.

BV 8, Brookings 7
Andrea Cain’s walk-off single was just the spark the Lady Lynx needed in their final home game of the season, as BV overcame Brookings 8-7.

With the game knotted at 7-all heading into the bottom of the sixth, Cain, a senior, produced a single to score the game-winning run.

All seven of the Bobcat runs came in the first and second innings. Brookings’ four-run first inning was fueled by J. Evans’ single and S. Grendler’s homer, which plated a trio of runs.

The Lynx evened the score in the bottom of the fifth on a Molly Reinschmidt single, which brought one run across the plate.

BV tacked on five much-needed runs in the fifth. The offensive onslaught came off the bats of Adrian Schoby and Behrens, both who chiseled out doubles, a single by Reinschmidt and a fielder’s choice by Craig.

Gabert earned the victory in the circle. She allowed 10 hits and seven runs over six innings of work, and sat down four Brookings batters.

Brook.     430 000 X – 7 10 1
BV            110 051 X – 8 13 2

Brookings – S. Grendler 2-3, 2 HRs, 2 runs, 5 RBI. BV – Hilary Behrens 2-3, 2 dbls., 2 runs, 2 RBI; Andrea Cain 2-3, dbl., run, 2 RBIs; Kaija Mork 2-4, dbl., run; Ella Ray 3-4, dbl., run; Adrian Schoby 1-3, dbl., run, RBI. Pitching: Brookings – J. Rindels (LP) 5 IP, 13 hits, 8 runs, 8 errors, 2 SO, 2 walks. BV – Jorden Gabert (WP), 6 IP, 10 hits, 7 runs, 5 errors, 4 SO, 2 walks, 2 HRs.

BV 12, Brookings 6
A four-run third inning and a six-run fourth inning was simply too much offense for the Bobcats to recover from in the 12-6 nightcap, which also went the way of the Lynx.

The third inning was highlighted by a Hilary Behrens homer. The fourth inning also saw a dinger sail over the fence. The grand slam came off of Adrian Schoby’s bat. Combined, the Lynx duo scored three runs and had six RBI, of which four were credited to Schoby.

Kailee Craig’s sacrifice fly in the first inning scored BV’s initial run.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full in the high-scoring affair. Alika Csordacsics was credited with the victory. She lasted four innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out five Bobcat batters.

J. Evans took the loss. She pitched four innings and in that time frame gave up 12 hits and 12 runs while striking out three.

The Lady Lynx will take aim at improving upon their fifth-place state tournament finish last season. The tournament will be played at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls Oct. 2-3.

At the 2019 tournament, BV posted a 2-2 record. Their two victories were shut outs against Sioux Falls Washington (10-0) and Yankton (8-0). Both Rapid City Central and O’Gorman had BV’s number.
