Library News: October

Brandon Community Library’s October programming includes:
• Birth to 5 – Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 - 10:15-10:45 a.m. Encourage a love of reading and develop your preschooler’s early learning through stories, rhymes, songs and movement. For children ages 3-5. Toddler Storytime: Wednesdays, Sept. 12, 19, 26 - 10:15-1:40 a.m. Nurture your toddler’s love of books through music, movement and stories, while developing language, motor and social skills. For 2-year-olds and caregivers. 
• Toddler Storytime: Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 – 10:15-10:40 a.m. Nurture your toddler’s love of books through music, movement and stories, while developing language, motor and social skills. For 2-year-olds and caregivers.
• Kids K-5 – Kids Create (Valley Springs Branch Library): Thursday, Oct. 4 – 3:15-4 p.m. Explore your creative side through stories, crafts games and activities. October’s program is pumpkin decorating. Decorating materials and small pumpkins will be provided while supplies last.
• Teens – Special FX: Zombie Skin Makeup/Fake Edible Blood: Thursday, Oct. 11 – 6:30-7:30 p.m. Learn how to make fake wounds on your skin and cover them in fake edible blood. For teens in grades 6-12. Registration is now open.
• Adults – Book Club: Thursday, Oct. 4 – 10:30-11:30 a.m. For people who enjoy reading a variety of books. October’s title is Jodi Picoult’s Change of Heart. November discussion will be on The Children Act by Ian McEwan. Call 582-2390 for more information.
• Author Visit: David Beckett: Thursday, Oct. 18 – 6:30-8 p.m. An award-winning South Dakota author, David Beckett excels in developing suspenseful historical novels. His works have been called adventurous, thrilling and meticulously accurate from a historical standpoint. Beckett will detail his beginnings as an author and delve into the writing, locals and history of where his stories unfold. His new release is The Chords of Memory.
• Families/All Ages – Puppet Show: Barnyard Capers: Friday, Oct. 12 – 10:15-10:45 a.m. Farmer Brown tries to train his new dog to protect barnyard animals from a hungry fox. Recommended for children 3 and older. Admission is first-come, first-served for individuals and families; groups of 10 or more must register.
• Siouxland Library will be closed Monday, Oct. 8 in observance of Native Americans’ Day. Due to a morning staff training, the libraries will open at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.
