Letter to the Editor: SD: Make the switch to renewable energy

By:

I am concerned for South Dakota’s future in agriculture. The effects of climate change have already begun to creep up on farmers and ranchers. Water, though not yet scarce, is threatening to become so if we do not change our course now. Renewable energy will help us mitigate water consumption and will decrease the amount of greenhouse gas emissions we output. When CO2 and other greenhouse gases are in high concentration, temperatures increase and the moisture in our soil quite literally disappears into thin air, forcing us to irrigate more heavily, putting strain on our resources. If we make the switch to renewable energy, South Dakota can lead the nation in climate change mitigation.

Sincerely,

Andrea Poole
