Letter to the Editor: Krause: Landowners, beware

It sounded good.  Whether or not the wind tower company put wind towers on our land, we would get X amount of dollars every year because we let them consider putting wind towers on our land. They said they would be treating everyone the same. They wanted to be good neighbors. Like I said, it sounded good.

Shame on us for not REALLY looking into things. The company decided that no wind towers would be put on our land, and that was OK. Then we saw the plan. Our piece of ground would be surrounded on three sides by wind towers. Large electric cables would go across a small part of our land, but we could live with that. NOBODY has ever conferred with us about all the changes to the plan. And the plan keeps changing.

A large, rounded corner was made on our land. We now have five groups of electrical cables and two crane paths. These paths range in width from 28 feet to 100 feet across. They bisect our land in many different places and angles. Fences have been torn down in 11 different places.

All of this is on 115 acres which is divided into small fields of grass, alfalfa, and pasture, with every piece having at least one path through it. It’s a mess!  Shame on us for not REALLY looking into things.

Don’t be like us. Thoroughly check things out before signing on the dotted line.

Sincerely,

Kathy Krause
