Letter to the Editor: Brandon deserves most qualified for the job

I read the article “Public supports Else as next police chief” in the Feb. 6 edition of the Brandon Valley Journal. 

Having lived in Brandon for the last 29 years, I certainly know who Mr. Else is and believe he has been very good for the community. However, when it comes to city government, those who are charged with the responsibility for filling vacant positions, they need to do all they can to find the absolute best person for each and every position. This is especially important for those who are in leadership positions. 

I believe city officials and the selection committee have done an excellent job of doing this by advertising the police chief position to all candidates both inside and outside of city government. The candidate that was ultimately selected, whom I have never met, appears to be well qualified with a solid background. 

I respect the opinions of Mr. Long and Mr. Wickersham but hope the selection committee will trust the process and stand by their selection. We deserve to have the most qualified professionals leading our city.
