The Lady Lynx soccer team took two hard losses to West Central and Washington.
Brandon Valley took on the Trojans Aug. 22 at West Central, returning with a 0-1 loss.
The Lynx had 18 scores on goals, and goalkeeper Kianna Thelen had eight saves to the Trojans’ nine scores on goal and 25 saves.
The Lynx seemed to dominate the first half, said coach Jacob Shoup – they just couldn’t put the ball into play.
“In the second half, we didn’t come out with the same energy and they started to push their style of play on us,” Shoup said.
The game was back and forth until the end, when West Central snuck one in on the backside of the goal after the ball was bouncing around BV’s 18-yard box.
“We played very well once again but couldn’t quite come away with the victory,” Shoup said, giving a nod to the Trojans for putting on the pressure.
The Lynx took a 1-3 loss against the Washington Warriors Aug. 25.
It was a game of missed opportunities, Shoup said.
Washington scored early in the first half after a foul right outside the 18-yard box.
Six minutes into the second half, BV got a shot off the left side from Emma Haas, her first varsity goal as a freshman, to tie the game.
Halfway through the half, Washington got the ball in the box one-on-one with BV’s defender. The Warriors won a penalty kick in which they finished, and the Lynx couldn’t catch another goal to tie the game.
“At 1-4 we are frustrated with the outcomes but are still overall very pleased with the girls’ effort and desire,” Shoup said. “We are hopeful that the bounces will start going our way and a little luck wouldn’t hurt, either.”
The Lady Lynx battle Roosevelt Sept. 5 at Sioux Falls.
