All good things come to those who wait – or keep trying. And that was the case last week, when Brandon Valley handed Sioux Falls Roosevelt a pair of losses in girls’ softball action, as the Rough Riders have long ruled the Class AA softball world.

“That was a good night for us because Roosevelt is really good, too,” Lynx head coach Corey Christensen said. “At this point of the year, everybody is going to be playing their best ball, but like I said, I just tell the girls to worry about us.”

In the first of two games, both teams were strong in the circle on Sept. 17, but BV’s Alika Csordacsics was just a bit stronger. She allowed just one hit and one run in her six innings of work. Csordacsics struck out two Roosevelt batters and walked just one.

Adrian Schoby led the Lady Lynx with two hits in her three at bats, one of which was a double.

SFR           000 010 X – 1 1 1
BV             000 002 X – 2 4 3

BV – Adrian Schoby 2-3, dbl., 2 RBI; Coral Gonseth 0-2, run; Kailee Craig 1-3, run. Pitching: BV – Alika Csordacsics (WP) 6 IP, 1 hit, 1 runs, 0 errors, 2 SO, 1 walks.

BV 12, SFR 6
The Lynx stole the lead late to defeat the Rough Riders for a second time on Thursday, this time a 12-setback. The Lynx trailed 6-5 in the top of the fifth when a Roosevelt error plated two runs BV.

The Lynx were boosted by Coral Gonseth, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. She singled in the first, doubled in the second, and singled two more times in the fifth.

Jorden Gabert pitched the victory. She surrendered six runs on seven hits over five innings.

BV registered 14 hits in the win. Gonseth and Ella Ray both turned in multi-hit games.

BV 3, Yankton 6

Yankton out-slugged No. 3 Brandon Valley Sept. 21 at Sertoma Park, where the Gazelle’s pounded out 14 hits en route to picking up 6-3 and 11-2 victories.

“They did some good things,” said Christensen. “They’re a good scrappy group, bit we just need to continue to try to adjust, make ourselves better and get things clicking.”

In the Sept. 21 opener, the Lynx went into the bottom of the fourth inning with a 3-2 edge, and that’s when the Gazelle offense produced four runs to erase BV’s lead. Yankton’s four-run inning was aided by a Lynx error, which scored the game-tying run.

The Lynx struck first on Tuesday, plating a run on a Kailee Craig single.

Although BV out-hit the Gazelles 7-6, Jenna Cox delivered a two-hit and four RBI performance. BV was led by Hilary Behrens, who had two hits in her two at-bats.

Lexi Madson picked up the win, striking out seven BV batters. In her five innings of work, Madson allowed seven hits and three runs while fanning seven. Csordacsics took the loss. She struck out five, allowing six runs over four innings of work.

The Lynx fell behind early in the nightcap, and failed to find the comeback answer in the 11-2 loss.

The Gazelle’s ran all over the Lynx in the first and fourth innings, racking up four and six runs, respectively. The first inning surge was inspired by a fielder’s choice, a single, a Lynx error and a stolen base.

BV’s initial run came in the fourth inning when Gabert hit into a fielder’s choice to score a run.

Four Lady Lynx all had a hit to their credit: Kaija Mork, Behrens, Schoby and Gonseth.

Gabert was also charged with the loss. In her five innings in the circle, Gabert allowed 11 runs on eight hits and struck out two Yankton batters. In all total, the Gazelles had eight hits in the game.

Despite a four-run deficit in the first inning, the Lady Lynx nearly acame all the way back, eventually falling 7-6 to Yankton in the invite’s opener.
BV scored five runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Molly Reinschmidt in the second, an error in the second, a single by Ray in the second, and a sacrifice fly by Craig in the fifth.

BV proved to be in it until the Gazelles put up the game-winning run in the bottom half of the fifth inning.

The Gazelles fired up the offense in the first inning with a double, scoring two runs.

The Lynx exceeded that effort with four runs in the second inning. The Lynx offense came from a walk by Reinschmidt, a single by Ray, and a Yankton error on a ball put in play by Gonseth.

Alika Csordacsics took the loss. She surrendered seven runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out five Yankton batters.
