With two consecutive second-place finishes at state, the Lady Lynx are ready to take the championship title in October.
Head coach Corey Christensen would love to see that happen.
“Our goal is to continue to improve each day and be playing our best softball by the end of the season,” he said. “We hope to create an opportunity for ourselves to be in the mix at the end of the season.”
This year’s team includes four returning varsity letter-winners and three seniors, also team captains: Gracie Adams, Tessa VanDenTop and Brooke Heinen.
“I think you have to look at Roosevelt as the team that has set the bar to becoming state champions,” Christensen said. “Them along with the rest of the state will be very competitive this year.”
BV has been a team to beat historically, too. The Lynx finished last fall 25-7, and they were 26-11 in 2015.
The junior varsity players are key, Christensen said.
“We pride ourselves on having a strong JV group that when they are called upon, they will be ready for their opportunity at the varsity level,” he said. “Much of our varsity group will be new to the varsity team, but they are all very capable of doing great things at that level.”
The Lady Lynx also have plenty of support in their coaching staff. In addition to Christensen, now in his third season with Brandon, the Lynx have assistant coach B.J. Becker and several volunteer coaches: Jeff Belben, Lindsay Block and Jesse Johnson. Junior varsity coach Emily Carroll is in her fifth season.
In addition to Adams, VanDenTop and Heinen, BV varsity players are Mya Bunker, Emily Moschell, Jackie Bingham, Jeniah Johnson, Kendra Kuehn, Andrea Cain, Morgan McKellep and Grace Bowar.
