The Lady Lynx clawed and fought their way through four quarters in their first game of the new year Jan. 2, coming away from Harrisburg with a 45-41 victory. It was the first loss for the 4-1 Tigers.
“This was a great team win for us,” head coach Mark Stadem said. “Harrisburg is a very good team and it’s extremely difficult to play in their place; they are really good at home.”
Brandon Valley held the Tigers to the least points they’ve scored in their five-game schedule to date. BV possessed slight leads at the buzzer of both the first (10-6) and second (17-15) quarters. The Tigers out-scored the Lynx 15-9 in the third to post a 30-26 advantage heading into the fourth. BV’s 19-point surge in the fourth, however, was more than Harrisburg’s 11-point production could overcome, resulting in the nip-and-tuck 45-41 win.
“We had a bunch of players step up and make big plays for us on both ends of the floor down the stretch,” Stadem said. “The girls did a great job of withstanding their runs in the second half and answering them.”
The Lynx got contributions from nearly every player on the roster, with junior Trinity Law’s 13 points leading the way. She was on the only Lady Lynx to net double digits. BV’s next largest contributions came from Hailey Pieper, who scored eight, and Danica Kocer, who had six. Sam Taylor, Hannah Behrens and Ashley Wells chipped in four points apiece.
BV scored nearly half of their points at the free throw line, where they cashed in on 20 of 30, and Law collected on 7 of her 9 attempts. Kocer and Ashley Wells both had a 4-for-4 night at the charity stripe, and Pieper dropped in 4 of 5.
The Lady Lyn put up just five 3-point shots Tuesday night, making good on just one.
Ashley Wells latched onto six of the team’s 25 total rebounds. Ellingson and Pieper both had four and Law had three.
Kocer was credited with three of BV’s 12 steals. Felicity Klinkhammer, Behrens, Ashley Wells and Ellingson all had two apiece. Behrens also recorded a trio of blocks.
BV had 18 turnovers in the contest.
