Five years in the insurance business in Brandon has been good to Josh Koob. So much so, Koob has expanded his footprint in Brandon with a move to a larger space and the near future addition of a second agent.
Koob’s move, however, wasn’t a far one. The Josh Koob American Family Agency has moved three doors down from its previous location on the south side of Splitrock Square to the premier corner space on the front side of the two-story business complex.
“There were two main reasons for the move: Location and size,” Koob said. “Our agency is growing, so we needed to make a move to accommodate for that, and by moving to the new office, we were able to add an extra office and a conference room.”
Koob will showcase his new location on Wednesday, Dec. 13, with a Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clients will receive personal invitations, and the public is also invited. Food and beverages will be provided.
Despite catching clients zip right past the new location on their way to their prior location, Koob believes the new office gives the agency better visibility.
“It’s been funny watching all of our clients drive right past our new office and still going to the old one,” he said. “We are hoping that we will have increased visibility by being in the front of the building right off Splitrock Boulevard.”
Koob has worked as an American Family agent in Brandon for five years, and three years ago, purchased the local agency, which offers home, auto, life, farm and a wide variety of business insurance.
“I know insurance isn’t everyone’s favorite thing to talk about, but I really enjoy helping others, and this is one way that I feel like I can do that, especially when our clients are in a time of need. Whether it be a car accident, house fire or a life insurance claim, we will be by your side through the whole process and try to make it as stress-free as possible,” he said.
Koob said his move to a larger space and the future addition of a second agent came sooner than he anticipated.
“The goal was always to expand. I didn’t really think it would be happening this fast, but it’s a great problem to have and we are very grateful for the opportunity to be able to do that and have a great community like Brandon to help us with that,” he said.
Koob said American Family Corporate will conduct the initial process of screening and interviewing potential candidates for the base pay plus commission position.
“I’m at a point right now where I feel like I’m struggling to keep up with all of my stuff, so by bringing somebody else on, that will take a load off of my shoulders, and whoever does get the position will be off and running,” he said.
The agency currently has one other employee in addition to Koob, Krista Clites. Although the customer service rep joined the staff in March, she’s well versed in the insurance business.
“She’s been a great fit for the agency,” Koob said, “and her dad was actually an American Family agent for 30 years down in Kansas, so she’s very familiar with American Family and the insurance industry in general; she’s been an awesome hire.”
Koob and his wife, Kaylee, an occupational therapist at Sanford Health in Worthington, Minn., have one son, Hudson, 18 months.
“Brandon is a great community, and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it,” Koob said. “My wife and I have been here for five years now and are looking forward to raising our family here. Watching the town grow has been really fun. Houses are going up all over the place and businesses seem to be doing very well, so I think we’re in a great spot.”
