Jill's Journal: Somedays, I’m a walking, talking mess

There are days when I have to wonder how I’m able to put one foot in front of the other.

I’m guessing that you’ve had that same out of sorts feeling sometime along the way, too.

I had one of those days last week. And it came courtesy of a no-caffeine morning. Or at least that’s where I’m placing the blame.

I felt sluggish that day, and by the end of the work day – on this particular day it was 8:30 p.m. – the yawns came one after another. There was no doubt that my bed was beckoning me, and it was on the sidelines of the wrestling match that had me thinking to myself, “I went through this day unbalanced.”

While waiting for the action to start on the mat, it was in the darkness of the gym that I discovered I had gone through the day with only earring dangling from one earlobe.

“Good grief,” I thought to myself, as I silently removed the one earring I was wearing. That’s when I learned the earring was secured not by just one back, but by two backs. Then it occurred to me, I had struggled that morning attaching what I thought was the only back to the earring.

Chalk that up to “mystery solved.”

I next came to the conclusion that sometime along my busy day, the other earring had most likely fallen out of my ear and was lost somewhere along the routes I took that day.

For a moment, I was sad. The earrings, you see, were a past Christmas gift from my mom. As we all know, we can’t cry over “spilled milk,” but we can sure wish we still had that milk.

As fate would have it, on Friday morning, as I plucked a pair of socks out of the drawer of my dresser, imagine my surprise, when on the corner of the dresser, I spied the missing earring.

Hence the double-backed earring.

I’ve decided that early-mornings aren’t my thing. And a morning a without a cup of caffeine is not a want; it’s a need. Lastly, I concluded that it’s days like this one that I’m glad my ears are attached. Or who knows where I’d find them.
