Hokenstad guides Lynx golfers to 8th place at Mitchell Invite

The Lynx boys took another step forward to their final goal of the season – a state podium-worthy performance – Saturday at the 15-team Mitchell Invite.
The proof is in their eighth-place finish and consistent team play, according to head coach Todd Geerdes.
“We had a couple of our most consistent team rounds of the year and I am proud of the progress that the Lynx are making. Our fairways hit, greens and regulation, and putts are all trending down and we are excited about our progress as we head into the ESD Conference in Mitchell and the Metro Conference over the next two weeks.”
Underclassman Nick Hokenstad was BV’s individual leader. The junior shot an 81 to tie for 27th place in the 88-golfer event. Also stepping up for the Lynx was senior Jace Christoffer, who posted an 82 to tie for 29th place. BV’s team score was rounded out by Emmet Hansen’s 84 (tie for 37th) and Logan Kelly and Colby Meyer, who both carded 85s to tie for 40th place. Owen Sanders closed out BV’s scoring with an 87, good enough to tie for 53rd.
Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Jack Eggebraaten shot a -2-under-par 70 to take the medalist honors.
Geerdes said his team’s recent seventh- and eighth-place team finishes were both about seven strokes shy of a state podium finish, which will be played Oct. 5-6 at nearby Willow Run. As the Lynx continue to perfect their game, the Mitchell Invite also served as a great practice round for the upcoming Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet, which will also be played at Mitchell’s Lakeview Country Club.
“I think by seeing the course we are poised to make a run at a top-three finish in the ESD,” Geerdes said.
