Glenn Dale Baden, 81

Glenn Dale Baden, 81, of Brandon, S.D., formerly of Pipestone, Minn., passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. A visitation will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at the Hartquist Funeral Home in Pipestone, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Interment will be in the New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Pipestone Chapel.

Glenn was born on Feb. 8, 1941, in Pipestone, Minn., to Alfred and Areline (Dreessen) Baden. He was baptized on March 9, 1941, and confirmed on May 20, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minn., by Pastor W.F. Preuss. His confirmation verse was Philippians 1:2, “Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Glenn grew up in Jasper and helped at his father’s station, Baden’s Service, and drove school bus. He attended Jasper Elementary and High School, receiving his diploma in 1960. Glenn served a year in the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1962 to 1963. He then served seven years in the South Dakota Air National Guard and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in Security Police work. Glenn was honorably discharged in 1970.

He was united in marriage to Verla Mae Hubner at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Oct. 30, 1965. Together they were blessed with one daughter, Kara Lee. They made their home at 917 Sixth Ave. S.W. in Pipestone until they moved to Brandon in 2003. From April 1971 to April 1983, Glenn was employed as a semi transport driver for Dan Dugan Transport, Inc., of Sioux Falls.  From April 1983 to July 1984, he owned and operated school buses for Flandreau Public Schools, District 50-3. He also drove a propane gas transport part-time for Sioux Falls Skelgas. Glenn was employed by Jackrabbit in the mid-1980’s. He also worked for School Bus Inc. driving charter/tour buses. His favorite run was to the Canadian Rocky Mountains for Your Man Tours, often completing back-to-back trips. He also assisted as a part-time school bus driver for Brandon Valley Schools.

Glenn passed away at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone on April 18, 2022 at the age of 81 years, two months and 10 days.  

Glenn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone and then Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon. His passion in life was driving bus. Glenn enjoyed washing cars and always kept his garage spotless. He was full of energy, loved being around people, and was always willing to help others. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, Cailey and Brecken, who were his pride and joy.  

Glenn is survived by his wife, Verla of Brandon; daughter, Kara (Joe) Van Ruler of Brandon; brothers, Larry (Judy) Baden of Sioux Falls, and Clayton (Jan) Baden of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Ken (Marcia) Faulhaber of Barrington, Ill.; grandchildren, Cailey and Brecken Van Ruler of Brandon; many nieces, nephews, other friends, and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Areline Baden; parents-in-law, Ernest and Alma Hubner; sister-in-law, Ardell Faulhaber; and brother-in-law, Eldon Hubner.
