Five Lynx medal at first powerlifting meet

Five Brandon Valley powerlifters hoisted hardware at the high school club team’s first meet of the season Saturday, which was hosted by the Sioux Falls Lincoln program.
A trio of Lynx powerlifters garnered hardware from the event. Jason Mills took second place in the boys 145-pound division, Alex Miller captured second in the boys 205-pound division, and Jack Harvison also placed second in the boys heavyweight division.
Two BV lifters claimed third place honors in their respective divisions: Jackson Bruggeman, 130-pound weight category, and Tyson Newton, 231 pounds.
“We had a very successful meet here at Lincoln,” said BV coach Adam Bobzien. “The kids did their best and competed really well considering time has been limited before this first meet. We had a handful of lifters that won some medals, and we had many that set new personal bests on their lifts. For bringing so many first-time lifters, I’m very happy with the result. The experience they gained today will only help them going forward to the next two meets.”
Just two competitions are yet to come this season, and both will take place in 2018. The Lynx powerlifters will compete Jan. 27 at O’Gorman, and on March 3, for the first time, Brandon will serve as the host site for the state powerlifting meet.
