Everlyn Berg, 84

Evelyn Berg passed away at Bethany Meadows in Brandon, S.D. on Monday, June 13, 2022, at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 4 days. Visitation will be held with the family present from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church, Brandon. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, also at Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church. Memorials may be given to Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 289, Brandon, SD 57005.

Evelyn Dorothy (nee Boer) Berg was born on Dec. 10, 1937, in Alvord, Iowa to Jake and Elsie (nee Herman) Boer. She was the middle child of five children. Her siblings were John, Coba, Clarence, and Elaine. She was baptized on Jan 2, 1938. She was confirmed in May 1963 at Christian Lutheran in San Pedro, Calif. She attended both elementary and high school at Alvord, graduating in 1955. She moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa, where she worked in the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office.

Evelyn was married to Werner Gottlieb Berg on March 14, 1959, in Rock Rapids at the Christian Reformed Church. This union was blessed with one child, Werner Monte Berg, who was born on Oct. 15, 1960, at the Pensacola Naval Air Station Hospital.

While Werner served in the Navy, they were stationed at various bases including: Pensacola, Fla., Barbers Point, Hawaii Naval Air Station (NAS), San Pedro, Calif., Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lexington Park, Md. 

In Lexington Park, Evelyn returned to work at the Patuxent River NAS, first with a military defense contractor and then transferring to a civil service position with the Department of Defense. Both Evelyn and Werner eventually retired in Maryland.

Werner and Evelyn moved to Brandon in 2005 and resided at Bethany Meadows in a garden home. 

Evelyn was a member for many years of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lexington Park. She transferred to Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in 2006. She was a member of the Breakfast Bible Study. Evelyn was an avid bowler, bowling in several leagues and winning many trophies. Her other interests and hobbies included traveling, crafts, needle point, crocheting, and keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Werner; her parents; Werner’s parents; one brother, John Boer; and sisters, Elaine Kelderman and Coba Schmahl.

She is survived by her son, Werner Monte of Brandon; brother, Clarence (Karyn) Boer, of Rock Rapids; her brother-in-law, Donald (Jean) Berg of Rock Rapids; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
