Donald A. Lootens, 75

Donald A. Lootens, 75, of Brandon, S.D., died Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 10a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Online guestbook at www.georgeboom.com.

Donald August Lootens was born Jan. 17, 1943, to August and Doris (Kompelien) Lootens. He attended grade school at St. Edwards in Minneota, Minn., and graduated from high school in Canby, Minn. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in Ag Economics from the University of Minnesota. He was baptized, took First Communion, and was confirmed at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Donald was united in marriage to Margaret “Marge” Frank at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island, Minn. To this union three daughters were born. They farmed in the Porter area until 1989. Don eventually started his own lawn care and landscaping business. Upon retirement they moved to Brandon and have been members of Risen Savior Catholic Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Marge, of Brandon; daughters, Jennifer “Jenny” (Dan) Haberman of Broken Arrow, Okla., Juanita “Nita” (Tim) Steffel and Stacy (Derek) Thompson, all of Brandon; grandchildren, Amanda (Braden) Martin, Zachary Haberman, Courtney Herrick, Caleb Steffel, Luke Thompson (fiancée Julia Blue), Blake Thompson, and Shane Thompson; step-grandsons, Cody and Casey Steffel; great-granddaughter, Adley Martin; and sisters, Elaine (Leon) Kack and Pat (Harold) DeSmet, both of Minneota, Minn., and Betty (Jeff) Winkels of Canby, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Doris Lootens. 

May he be remembered for his gentle nature and his contagious smile. Blessed be his memory.
