Daniel Coulter, 82, of Brandon, S.D., passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at 11 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon. In lieu of flowers memorials, may be directed to the Risen Savior Prayer Garden.
Daniel George Coulter was born July 26, 1936, in Brookings, S.D., to George and Elsie (Friedel) Coulter. He grew up and received his education in Brookings. Dan enlisted and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He and Barbara Steinhoff eloped on Jan. 10, 1959. Theirs was an enduring love story that continued for nearly 60 years. They were blessed with two daughters, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They have resided in Brandon for the past 46 years.
Dan retired after 31 years of employment with the federal government, first with USDA and later as an employee of the VA Medical Center. During retirement, Dan and Barb enjoyed several winters in Hawaii and Texas. They were honored for their volunteer service to the Red Cross as Volunteers of the Year. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, hunting, fishing, and camping. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was an example of what a life well lived represents.

Dan was a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church, American Legion Post 38 in Miller, S.D., and a life member of VFW Post 628 in Sioux Falls.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Barb of Brandon; daughters, Kathy (Dan) Dellman and Jo (John) Murren, all of Brandon; three grandchildren, Ryan (Lyndse) Dellman of Brandon, Leland Murren and his girlfriend, Isabella Garcia, of Sioux Falls, and Macy Murren of Brandon; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Carly Dellman of Brandon; sisters, Lucille Hanson of Bruce, S.D., and JoAnn (Al) Hawley of Brookings, S.D.; brother, Dale Coulter of Berkeley, Calif.; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
