Crash creates jam on I-90

Traffic was backed up for miles on Interstate 90 during the end-of-the-workday rush hour Aug. 8, the result of a crash near Brandon.
Authorities report that a motorcycle rider, Gerald Heppe, 51, of Battle Creek, Mich., sustained only minor injuries from the crash. 
According to a report from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Heppe ran into the back of a 24-year-old woman’s car traveling eastbound on I-90 about a mile west of Brandon when she changed lanes due to traffic. Heppe, who also changed lanes, fell off the motorcycle into the passing lane in front of another car, but was not hit. He was not wearing a helmet but was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Charges are pending against Heppe, and the crash remains under investigation by authorities.
