Lynx senior Emmet Hansen watches his tee off during play of last week’s Metro Conference tournament.
Dry course conditions, strong winds and strong competition resulted in a fourth-place team finish for the Lynx in the Sept. 29 Metro Conference Golf Championships. The combined elements negatively impacted Brandon Valley’s play that day.

“I think the wind was blowing so hard that my hat ended up somewhere in Lincoln County,” said Lynx head coach Todd Geerdes.

Geerdes had few words for his team’s results.

“The conditions were brutal to say the least and the scores for the day showed that,” he said. “I just talked with the kids about persevering and finishing the round the best they could. After the round I told them to have a short memory and forget today’s round and focus on the upcoming state tournament.”

Two of the five Metro Conference teams were in a battle for the title, with O’Gorman edging the Lincoln Patriots by a mere stroke, 317-318. Roosevelt was third behind their 329-team score, followed by BV’s 357 and Washington’s 362.

Brandon Valley’s best game from senior Emmet Hansen. He carded an 84 to finish in a six-way tie for 11th place.

Juniors Nick Hokenstad and Logan Kelling claimed 21st and 22nd behind their respective 90 and 91 scores. Sophomores Caleb Suprenant – called up to varsity due to Colby Meyer’s absence from the lineup – and Owen Sanders both shot 92s. Senior Caleb Christoffer rounded out the scoring with a 94 for 27th place.

For the second consecutive season, Lincoln’s Nash Stenberg defended his title, firing a 2-over-par 74.

BV closed out their 2020 season Monday and Tuesday at the Class AA state tournament, which was played at nearby Willow Run. See the Oct. 14 issue of the Journal for the results.
