The Brandon City Council Monday night renewed all of the city-issued liquor licenses for 2018.
Brandon Spirits owner Dave Hansen was present to address the council about being busted in a sting last month after his employee carded an underage person, yet still sold the alcohol. Hansen said he was taking steps to ensure it didn’t happen again.
Jokerz Casino owner Thomas Thompson was also cited in October for serving alcohol to a minor and said the same.
City administrator Bryan Read said he had contracted an individual experienced in retail liquor sales to evaluate Brandon’s $125,000 liquor license fee and would present findings from that study at an upcoming meeting.
Alderwoman Barb Fish updated the council on the park board’s plans to begin discussions on what to do with the 32 acres of land the city recently purchased to expand Aspen Park.
Fish said the board would start by surveying citizens on their priorities and keep the addition of a second entrance to the park on the south side as priority.
Brandon Valley Hockey Association teams are practicing on their new refrigerated ice rink at McHardy Park, Fish reported, and other communities are wanting to rent ice time, too.
The council meets next at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at council chambers.
