Staff report
Brandon city officials plan to name its next Chief of Police in late March or early April.
The city is in currently conducting interviews of five candidates who have been narrowed down from an initial pool of 23 applicants, Chief Dave Kull said last week.
Kull is retiring April 26 after 10 years at the helm of the Brandon Police Department.
The department will also gain a new officer this spring. At the Jan. 21 city council meeting, the council approved Kull’s recommendation to extend a contingent offer to Seth Blomgren, the top candidate from the current eligibility list. Blomgren will be required to pass a background check and drug test before joining the department.
The council also approved City Hall’s recommendation to hire Karen Keyser as a part-time office assistant. Keyser started Jan. 28.
