Brandon Valley Board of Education made quick work of their Nov 27 agenda, taking care of district business in less than nine minutes.
During the brief meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jarod Larson updated board members on the construction project at Brandon Valley Middle School. The final walk-thru was scheduled for Nov. 29, and Larson said the board will review the project’s final financial report at their Dec. 11 meeting.
A follow-up survey regarding technology and device research was sent to BVMS staff earlier that day, Larson said. Responses to the survey will be used to gain insight on how the device would be utilized in the classroom, how to proceed and which tool would be most applicable to the needs. Larson said a recommendation on how to proceed with implementing one-to-one technology at the middle school will be made in the coming months.
Larson also briefed the board on the district’s strategic planning process. Various focus groups have met, and a public meeting for all interested patrons is planned for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the BVHS Community Room.
Under general business, the board gave their OK to approving a $2,000 mini-grant received by the high school Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) program. The grant will be used for student tobacco prevention lessons and materials.
Board member Sandy Klatt reported that she and board peer Ellie Saxer recently attended the ASBSD delegate assembly in Pierre.
“As expected, no controversial items came up. There was actually no debate on any of the resolutions,” Klatt said. “Legislatively, I don’t anticipate there being any gigantic issues, certainly no issues of controversy in the Legislature this year, but one never knows what bills will be introduced.”
The board meets next at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11 in the BVHS Community Room.
