Most high school seniors will receive cards filled with money and gifts upon graduating.
But Mariah Matthies requested cans of Campbell’s soup, green beans and more.
The recent Brandon Valley High School grad and 2018 homecoming queen got what she wanted, too – 473 pounds’ worth of food, all which she delivered to the Brandon Area Food Pantry Friday.
“She likes to help others,” said Matthies’s mom, Teresa. “‘Homecoming queen gives back.’”
In addition to several carts filled with donated food items, Matthies also presented $620 in monetary donations to the pantry.
“This was purely awesome of this young lady,” said BAFP CEO Linda Weber.
The money will go toward stocking the pantry with meat and produce, said Brad Top, a pantry board member.
“This is quite a graduation present,” he said.
