BVHS Career Fair set for March 12

Staff report
Brandon Valley High School’s first annual Career Fair is set for 4:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the auxiliary gym.
The free event, which will be held in conjunction with the spring session of parent-teacher conferences, will feature booths from more than two-dozen local businesses.
The goal is to enhance students’ college and career readiness by providing them with tools for the future.
High school administrators hope the Career Fair will encourage parents of BV students to stop in, too.
“We’re excited about that and hoping conference attendance is up in the spring as well,” BVHS counselor Michelle Stemwedel said.
The school district worked with Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce CEO/president Kim Cerwick to bring local businesses on board for the Career Fair, including several that are open to hosting BVHS students as interns.
According to BVHS assistant principal Mark Schlekeway, BVHS will pilot a paid student internship program this fall that will double as one credit for students.
The Career Fair comes on the heels of the school district’s first annual Post-Secondary Education Night, held last fall in conjunction with parent-teacher conferences.
