BV win 1 of 3 at Huron Invite

The Lady Lynx let the big points and the big moments slip away Sept. 5 at Huron, where Brandon Valley came away with a 7-2 dual win over Huron, a close 5-4 loss to Aberdeen Central, and a 7-2 loss to Mitchell.
BV head girls’ tennis coach Adam Rothenberger said he expected the Mitchell and Aberdeen Central matches to be tough, but close.
“I was confident going into those matches that we would still be able to get the edge over both teams,” Rothenberg said. “Unfortunately, our mental game was not strong as it should have been and we let almost every big point and moment go to the other team.”
It was a day of perfection for BV’s flight 1 doubles team of Bella Schultz and Addy Jackson. The Lady Lynx duo had the upper hand in all three of their matches to go unscathed on the day. They sidelined both Huron’s Ann Hoek and Bethany Engelhart and Aberdeen Central’s Megan Thone and Alice Vogal by 1-2 margins, and delivered a 10-1 blow to Mitchell’s Atlanta Stahle and Amber Moller.
Jackson was also a force to be reckoned with in flight 3 singles, where she also went undefeated on the day.
Jackson overcame Bianca Medina of Huron 10-2, Mitchell’s Carly Cornstock 10-4, and Moller of Mitchell 10-8.
Rothenberger said his team “is still a little banged up along with a couple of the other teams,” hence the changes in the lineup. Despite those changes, the team will focus “on coming back mentally stronger and healthier.”
