Lynx boys’ tennis coach Todd Geerdes is seeing a noticeable improvement in his team. And Saturday’s Yankton Invitational was a prime example. Brandon Valley turned in a team tally of 326, landing them in ninth-place in the 15-team event.

“We had a very balanced performance,” Geerdes said. “We had an awesome day at the range on Thursday and that carried over to the competition on Saturday. Overall, I was pleased with the performance because we are making progress in areas that will help us score better.”

Geerdes said BV’s ball striking was much better, which helped them produce a more consistent performance.

BV senior Emmet Hansen guided the Lynx once again behind his 1-over-par 73, which landed him in a two-way tie for third with Austin Merrow of Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

Two BV Lynx – Logan Kelling and Owen Sanders – both carded 84s, tying for 49th place. Colby Meyer tapped in at 85 to tie for 54th.

Despite the improved play, Geerdes said there is still some work to be done.

“We still need to eliminate the two to three bad holes per player and work on chipping from around the green to be able to get up and down more consistently,” he said.

Lincoln’s Luke Honner carded a 1-under-par 71 to nab medalist honors.
