The Brandon Valley boys soccer team got their 2017 season off to a winning start by shutting out the visiting Pierre Governors 2-0 on Aug. 11 at the McHardy Park Soccer Complex.
After a tight first half, sophomore Wyatt Haas scored Brandon Valley’s initial goal about five minutes into the second half with Lucas Johnson assisting. The Lynx scored again when Haas passed off the ball to freshman Eli Kirlin in the second quarter.
Brandon Valley took 27 shots at the Pierre goal in the opener, with about half of those shot on goal, according to coach Chris Limmer.
“We dominated offensively and defensively,” Limmer said. “We controlled the first half and then when we scored, that relieved a little pressure. Later in the game Pierre started to get more aggressive, but we held them at bay.”
That second goal, Limmer added, was an insurance goal for the Lynx
Brandon Valley goalie Cedric Barton had four saves in the shut out.
The Lynx are in action next at 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 19 when they host the Mitchell Kernels. The JV boys take the field at 10 a.m. followed by the varsity boys.
