BV serves up success on West River courts

The Lady Lynx played tennis over the weekend – lots of tennis – and the end result were three dual victories and a solid showing at the two-day Rapid City Invite.
In dual action, Brandon Valley defeated Pierre 8-1 and St. Thomas More 9-0 on Aug. 27, and followed up with another 9-0 victory over Rapid City Central Friday morning prior to opening play in the invite.
“The girls played great tennis and I was impressed with the quality of tennis considering we’re still in the beginning of our season,” said head coach Adam Rothenberger.
Although the Lynx coach saw his team “lose some steam and focus” in the final round of the singles portion of the invite, “it’s understandable for how many matches they played in three days,” he said.
“We may not have finished some matches how we wanted to, but I am confident our players will continue to improve and will be ready to finish those tough matches late in the season,” Rothenberger said.
The Lynx captured a handful of second-, third- and fourth-place finishes in the invite. BV’s flight 2, 3 and 4 singles all collected second place, while Bella Schultz (flight 1) landed in third.
Kenzie Polasky, who represents BV in flight 5 singles, won the consolation title. A leg injury forced Adriauna Alexander (flight 6 singles) to withdraw from her semifinal match, which resulted in forfeiture of her third/fourth place match.
Two of BV’s three doubles teams brought home third place honors, flight 1’s Schultz and Addy Jackson, and flight 2’s Marie Pelletier and Michaela Jerke. The flight 3 duo of Kenzie Polasky and Alexander placed fourth in their division.
Following Tuesday’s dual at O’Gorman, BV heads to compete in a quadrangular at Huron on Saturday before hosting the BV Team Invite on Sept. 11 and 12.
