BV Lynx: Where Are They Now?

With about a month to go in most sports at the college and or university level, I thought I would update you on some stats for some of our former Brandon Valley student-athletes. It is a young group, as you will see, on average barely over a sophomore in eligibility. They have to fight and claw every day to earn more playing time, which is very different from when they were at BV. They have to be ready to play in an instant because of a possible player injury. If the team is struggling record wise, the coach will try to get younger players more playing time for next year.  

Let me highlight a couple of our former BV athletes that are having great years. Tyler Limmer, who plays soccer for Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, has led the Red Raiders to a 6-1 record. He has scored 12 goals this year, which puts him third in the Great Plains Conference. He also is third in the GPAC with 38 shots on goal.

Hanna Jellema, a freshman at South Dakota State, was a two-time all-state selection for the Lynx. Hanna has played in 52 sets this year and has compiled 49 kills, 13 blocks and 50 digs as a true freshman. With the Jacks struggling this year record-wise, Hanna has had a great opportunity to get playing time in her first year.

Last week in women’s soccer, Augustana University traveled to No. 22 Bemidji Sate. Melanie Peltier plays for Bemidji and Grace Bender plays for the Vikings; both are sophomores. Each team has a great record this year, with the game ending in a tie after two overtimes. Both former BV Lynx play considerable minutes for their teams.  

A big Division II football game in Sioux Falls will be this Saturday. It is a game that will give the winner the “key to the city”, as Augustana University will play at the University of Sioux Falls. Game time is at noon and will feature three former Lynx, Drew Reinschmidt, who plays for the Vikings, and AJ Garrow and Lucas Lunstra, who play for the Cougars.

FOOTBALL

Matt Vandeberg - Iowa, Sr., WR. On the season, Matt has 15 catches for 186 total yards, 2 TDs.

AJ Garrow - University of Sioux Falls, Jr. AJ has 20 catches for 184 yards this season.

Lucas Lunstra – USF, Jr., LB 

Alex Wilde – South Dakota State University, Jr., WR. Alex has 11 catches for 145 yards.

Jake Comeaux – Northern State University, So., QB. Jake has a trio of TD passes, completing 60-110 this season.

Riley Frantzen – NSU, So., RB. Riley has compiled 5 rushes for 20 yards, 14 catches for 65 yards, 10 punt returns for 86 yards, and one kickoff return for 15 yards.  

Drew Reinschmidt – Augustanta University, So., WR. Drew has caught 13 passes for a total of 185 yards and one TD. He has had one kickoff return for 21 yards.  

Austin Pulse – Minnesota West, So., DL.

Bryce Christie – NSU, Fr., lineman, red shirt.

Tyler Nelson – NSU, Fr., lineman. Tyler has played in four games and is backup nose guard for the Wolves. 

Spencer Grage – Morningside College, Fr., red shirt. 

Alex Wickersham – SDSU, Fr., red shirt. 

Jax Steffel – Gustavus Adolphus College, Fr.

SOCCER

Tyler Limmer - Northwestern College (Iowa), Jr. Tyler has started all 14 games and leads the team with 12 goals.  

Grace Bender – Augustana University, So., defender. She has played in 13 games this season.

Melanie Peltier – Bemidji State, So. Mel has played in all 13 games and has one goal to her credit. The Beavers boast a great season record of 11-0-2.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jacob Hanna – North Dakota State University, Fr.  Jacob is running unattached this year, as this means he is red-shirting. In his last outing on Oct. 14, he ran at UND and finished 30th in an 8K with a time of 26:20.

VOLLEYBALL

Taylor Thorson - University of Minnesota-Moorhead, So., libero. Taylor has recorded 43 digs as a defensive specialist.

Hannah Paauw - Northwestern College, So., MH. Hannah has had four kills this year duing the Red Raiders’ 23-2 season.

Becca Koehn - U of M-Moorhead, Fr., setter. Becca is red-shirting after being injured early in the season with a broken hand.

Elsie Zajicek - Wayne State College, Fr., MH.

Hanna Jellema - SDSU, Fr., RSH. Hanna has seen significant playing time as a true freshman, playing in 52 sets and compiling 49 kills, 13 blocks and 50 digs.
