Brandon Valley spread the wealth in their 13-0 defeat of Huron in girls’ soccer action last week, as a slew of Lady Lynx had foot in the victory. The ESD victory improves BV to 7-3-1.

“Huron was hit hard by close contact and some positive tests with COVID, so much of their team was pulled up from JV,” explained BV head coach Jacob Shoup, which created the mismatch against the high-powered Lynx. BV out-shot Huron 41-2 and was able spread the scoring around with multiple girls lighting up the board.

Junior Gemma Symington and sophomore Emma Kirlin led the way with both players recording hat tricks on the night. Sophomore Mara Nelson produced two goals and two assists and senior Julia Kreutner complimented the team tally with two goals. Emma Haas was credited with a goal and an assist, and Allison Ebbing offered a goal to the winning cause.

Lynx senior defender Kylie Birath got in on the action with a goal. Kennedi Woessner and Kennedy Nuebel each finished with two assists and Sage Bultje had one assist to her credit.

“It was great to see the balance of scoring and assists that we had throughout our team,” Shoup said.

BV’s Sept. 24 game against Watertown was cancelled for a spike in COVID cases in Watertown. Shoup said the game will not be made up.

The No. 8 Lady Lynx wrap up their regular season schedule on their home field at 7 p.m. Thursday when they host No. 4 Sioux Falls Roosevelt (6-1-1), with the winner taking ownership of the 2020 Metro Conference title.

“It will also be our last chance to move up in the seedings to try and secure a home playoff game,” Shoup said. “We feel like the girls are coming on strong at the end of the season and we hope we can continue to improve and play at our best as playoffs start next week.”

Playoffs are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 10. The semifinals are set for Oct. 13 and state is Oct. 17 at Huron.
