The Brandon Valley Future Farmers of America chapter is celebrating student success and regional generosity.
Several BV FFA members qualified for the state Leadership Development Event (LDE) contest based on scores at the District 7 contest Nov. 14 in Hartford.
FFAers from Brandon Valley that won awards are Kayla Jacobson (Creed Speaking, first place), Sam Biren (Prepared Speech, third place) and Madison Lee (Employable Skills, third place). BV’s Ag Issues team of Grace Wright, Allen Wright, Ethan Wright, Jaden Hintz and Tucker Trout placed second to qualify for state as well.
On Nov. 17 Brandon Valley FFA received a $1,000 donation that will be used for travel expenses and programming needs.
Through the South Dakota FFA Foundation, Dakota Access Pipeline, LLC donated $1,000 to each FFA chapter in all counties through which the pipeline runs.
“This donation will provide the funding for the Brandon Valley FFA chapter to assist members in attending the 2018 National FFA Convention and other great things,” said Jackie Bogue, Brandon Valley FFA advisor.
Dakota Access’s total donation of $65,000 benefitted 35 FFA chapters in 13 counties. Additional funds will go toward regional events and the state FFA Convention to build student leadership, Bogue said.
“We greatly appreciate Dakota Access Pipeline’s interest in supporting South Dakota youth and our communities, and we appreciate their partnership in building a strong future for South Dakota agriculture by providing opportunities for our local FFA members,” she said.
