BV cheer team nails pyramid at Yankton; BVDT rises to top

In their first showing of the 2020 season, the Lady Lynx competitive cheer team captured fourth place at the Sept. 10 Yankton Invite, while Brandon Valley’s dance team topped the charts to bring home grand champion honors for the second time this season.

 

Cheer coach Katee Lane said the team’s early setback with illness, which kept them from competing in the Watertown Invite, was just one obstacle they’ve had to overcome. Despite the hardships, Lane said BV’s “spirit boosters” were happy with the performance they gave last week.

 

“After a strong cheer section of the routine and hitting the ending pyramid,” Lane said, the Lynx came away with fourth place. “This being their first competition, there is a lot of growth that will need to happen over the course of the season.”

 

The Lady Lynx compete Saturday at the Brookings Invite, where Lane is confident “the girls will already be cleaner and stronger.”

 

Grand champion cheer honors went to O’Gorman, followed by Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Harrisburg and BV.

 

 

Lady Lynx Dance

BV’s competitive dance team continued their dominance in the AA division, winning both the jazz and pom divisions at Yankton. The Lynx were also the clear overall winners, besting runner-up Sioux Falls Washington by 18.75 points.

 

“They’re incredibly talented,” said BV dance coach Ashley Hoffman. “They’ve definitely been fun to work with and they have their heads set on working toward winning state this year, so they are really staying focused in practice.”

 

The Lynx scored a 355.5 in jazz and 346.5 in pom. Class A’s Dakota Valley was the runner-up in both divisions, earning a 330.5 in jazz and 328 in pom.

 

BV’s dance team will also compete in Brookings on Saturday, where they will focus on capturing their third straight grand champion title.

 

“They’ve made a poster – set up like targets – and knock them out each time they compete as they work on their small goals to get to their big goal,” Hoffman said.
