The Lynx boys soccer team had a rough week, losing to Brookings Saturday and tying Yankton last Tuesday.

The game against Brookings was closer than the 3-0 score indicated.

Brandon Valley gave up a foul with 15 seconds to go in the first half. The foul stopped the clock, and gave the Bobcats an opportunity put the ball into BV’s box with two seconds left in the half.

“This upset us and deflated us quite a bit going into halftime,” said coach Chris Limmer. “We were pushing people forward throughout the rest of the game, trying to get a goal.”

Brookings’ second goal of the game came on a penalty kick from a tackle inside BV’s penalty area. Brookings scored again late in the game after Lynx goalie Sedric Barton made a good save off of a Bobcat attack, but the shot deflected to another Brookings defender, who put it in.

The Gazelles scored first on a free kick from about 20 yards out 23 minutes into the first half. The Lynx tied it up eight minutes later when Jacob Frantzen played a through ball to Wyatt Haas, who dribbled past Yankton defenders to score.

“As the score indicated, it was a pretty even game, but Yankton had a slight lead on shots and more of the possession throughout the game,” Limmer said.

The Lynx next travel to Aberdeen to take on the Golden Eagles Sept. 8.
