Brandon Valley’s varsity boys soccer team only scored one goal in their home opener, but that shot was all it took for the Lynx to record a win over the Pierre Governors Friday night.
That goal came in the fifth minute of the game, when Caden Nichols sent a corner kick into the box from the right side. Lucas Johnson touched the ball forward toward the goal to find Wyatt Haas, who quickly took a touch and turned to hit a left-footed shot past the Governor goalkeeper.
The Lynx continued to test the Pierre defense by maintaining possession throughout most of the game and forcing the Governors’ goalkeeper to make nine saves on the day. Ayden Spicer, in goal for the Lynx, was only called upon to make three saves the entire game.
The Lynx out-shot Pierre 17-4.
“Overall, I was pleased with the result and how we played,” said Lynx coach Chris Limmer. “For the amount of possession and control we had of the game, I would have liked to see us score more goals, but we did get a win, and that’s very important.”
The Lynx host Mitchell at 10 a.m. this Saturday at the BVHS Stadium and host Sioux Falls Christian at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Aug. 27.
