The Lady Lynx suffered another pair of 3-0 volleyball setbacks last week, falling to both Huron and Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The back-to-back losses drop Brandon Valley’s early-season record to 1-3.

Coach Dacia Boehrns said the team is “still trying to figure each other out.”

“We’re a young group, we really are, and we’re just trying to find each other out. I’m trying to find that go-to person, I’m trying to find that spark on the court,” she said. “A lot of these girls haven’t played together, so it’s trying to put together this all-star varsity team, and we’re just not there yet.”

On the home court on Thursday, Huron dug right in to defeat the Lynx 25-16, 25-9, 25-14. After losing the first two, the Lynx gained some momentum in the third game to get within a point or two of their opponents but were never able to overcome the deficit.

“I told the girls we can do this, you can still do this, but we’ve got to focus on the fundamentals and try and get game three here and then go from there,” Boehrns said. “When they take a deep breath and they think about that, they came out and played a little relaxed and did the fundamentals. We had a little stretch there for a while, but we’ve still got work to do.”

Paige Timmons and Abby Risty each had a trio of kills, set up by Avery Myers’ 23 set assists. Anna Reinschmidt and Ella Simonson both had seven digs, and Jadah Tschetter had a solo block.

On Aug. 28, Roosevelt took the Lady Lynx in a three-set Metro Conference match. The Lynx lost 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.

In the match, Risty and Timmons had six and four kills, respectively, off of 17 set assists. Simonson had eight digs. Macyn Flanigan, Timmons and Tschetter all had four blocks. Flanigan also recorded a pair of ace serves.

BV hosts Yankton at 7 p.m. Thursday and wraps up the week with a road match at Harrisburg on Saturday that gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
