BV’s Connor Akin battles for the ball against Washington’s Alex Bittner on Pigskin Classic Saturday. The Warriors spoiled BV’s home opener, taking the 3-1 match.
Goals were a rare commodity for the Lynx boys’ soccer team last week, as Brandon Valley registered a tie and a loss against two Sioux Falls programs.

At Sioux Falls Christian on Aug 25, BV goalkeeper Ayden Spicer played a significant role in the game’s 0-0 final tally. The junior registered nine saves on the night – his highest total in a single game to date this season.

BV head coach Chris Limmer said both teams created a handful of opportunities to put the ball in goal, but neither team was able to find the back of the other team’s net.

In this evenly-matched meeting, the Lynx had a slight advantage in shots taken in the first half with seven, four of which were on goal, compared to the Chargers’ six, of which three were on goal.

In the second half, Christian had the advantage, firing nine shots (six on goal) to BV’s six, of which three were on goal.

The Warriors spoiled the Lynx boys’ home opener on Pigskin Saturday scoring a pair of goals in the opening half and tacking on a third midway through the second half en route to the 3-1 Metro Conference victory.

Limmer said his team didn’t have their best outing, “and that showed against a good Warrior team. We didn’t win a lot of 50-50 balls and they seemed to be more aggressive than we were today.”

Washington’s initial goal came as a result of a corner kick that wasn’t cleared properly by the Lynx. The ball was again put back across the Lynx goal and was too much for Spicer to handle, falling to a Warrior attacker who touched it in.

The Warriors would double their lead with 1:37 left in the first half.

About halfway through the bottom half of Saturday’s clash, Washington netted their final goal of the match when a Warrior attacker beat his defender with a good move and sliced a shot past Spicer.

The Lynx didn’t go home empty-handed, though.

BV landed a consolation goal with 13 minutes to play in the game. Senior midfielder Landon Kocer played a long ball over the top of the Warrior defense to senior forward Lawson Lambertz. The skilled senior found himself in acres of space and calmly tapped the ball past the Warrior goalkeeper for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Limmer said the 2-1-2 Lynx need to work harder for each other when they have possession of the ball “and get better at keeping the ball for longer spells when we do have it.”

Following Tuesday’s road ESD Conference road match at Yankton, the Lynx are on break until Sept. 8 when they host Brookings at 5 p.m. at the BVHS Stadium.
