Staff report
A Brandon teen was killed in an automobile accident just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Noah Kimball, 14, was driving a 1986 Chevy pickup truck near Veterans Parkway and East Madison Street when the truck began experiencing mechanical issues. According to Capt. Mike Walsh with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office, Kimball overcorrected, and as a result, the pickup crashed into the ditch and rolled.

Sioux Falls Police were first to arrive at the scene. Walsh said they found the Kimball, a freshman at Brandon Valley High School, pinned under the pickup. He was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

One passenger, his father Brian, 30, was a passenger in the vehicle. He reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, the Sioux Falls Police Department, the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office were all on scene investigating the crash.

Michelle Stemwedel, a guidance counselor at BVHS, said counselors have been and will continue to be available for any students needing help processing Kimball’s death.

Last week, she said counselors led group and individual sessions.

Stemwedel said counselors have information on stages of grieving in addition to journals that are made available to any student needing assistance.

“We also encourage families to check in with their children often over the course of the next few weeks,” she said.
