Brandon sixth graders take chemistry challenge

On Saturday, Feb. 22, six teams from the Brandon Valley School District competed in South Dakota’s statewide “You Be The Chemist Challenge.” The competitors worked as a team to figure out the answer to 40 different chemistry questions/situations. The teams competed really well and seemed to have a lot fun, with the winning team moving on to the National Finals in June in Houston. The winning team was a sixth-grade team consists of Lillian Donth, Madison Eichler, Maggie Reekers, and Lillian Sprecher. Other teams competing were as follows: Sixth grade team 2: Issac Josephsen, Parker Coughlin, Mason Wieker; Seventh grade team 1: Emma Lowitz, Kayla Baugher, Sadee Webster, Keith Travis; Seventh grade team 2: Jacob Hansen, Gavin Stone, Makenna Lindner; Eighth grade team 1: Sophia Ries, Parker Thorsland, Thomas Risty, Autumn Taylor; and Eighth grade team 2: Brady Kwiecinski, Lucee Rohr, Kayla Jackson, Madison Hendrickson.
