Brandon’s citywide fall rummages will go on as planned this year, with social distancing precautions recommended for both shoppers and sellers.

Registration opens Saturday, and the sales will run Thursday, Aug. 27 through Saturday, Aug. 29.

“We’re pretty sure it’s a go,” said Mike Kessler, who organizes the annual citywide rummage sales with his wife, Wendy. “Everything looks under control. We picked a later date to make sure outbreaks didn’t happen.”

The annual spring rummages were canceled due to the coronavirus. Face masks will be encouraged during the fall sales, but the decision to require them is up to each individual seller.

With many events called off or postponed this spring and summer due to the virus, the Kesslers received a “more than normal” number of inquiries about whether Brandon would hold its 11th annual fall rummages.

“There are people who definitely plan on coming,” Kessler said. “I don’t know if it’ll be as big of a crowd as normal … Probably plan on having a mask if you’re rummaging.”

To register a sale in the citywide rummages, visit Sellers who plan on requiring face masks are asked to include that in their sale listing and post a sign for shoppers during the sale.

Registration closes Friday, Aug. 21, and listings will be available on the website only opn Monday, Aug. 24.

This spring would have been the 20th year for Brandon’s citywide spring rumages. The fall event has been extended from its usual two days to three days.
